INTOLERANCE AND MOURNING! Police kill Éverton Cristiano Teófilo, Veto, vocalist of Filosofia Reggae!

Reggae singer Éverton Cristiano Teófilo, known as Veto, only 20 years old, was shot dead around 4 PM this Monday in Vila Gerty, São Caetano, after allegedly trying to resist a approach by military police officers from the 4th Company of the 6th Battalion. According to police, Veto would have fired a revolver twice, but the weapon failed and the officers reacted. This account was completely denied through reports from several witnesses, friends and relatives, and the officers' statements ended up contradicting each other. The case remains under investigation.

CONFLICTING INFORMATION

Veto was not recognized by the victims of the real estate agency robbery, which frames the case as a gratuitous execution, since the singer did not resist (as he was shot in the back) and did not even carry a firearm. According to police, Veto would have been on the lookout for a robbery and received a revolver to carry out the crime on Marlene street, near the robbery location. With the arrival of the patrol car, Veto would have tried to shoot and Corporal André Luiz Ribeiro Cruz – who was off duty, in civilian clothes, and participated in the operation inside a patrol car – fired back, hitting Veto once: the bullet pierced his back and hit the singer's chest. He still ran a few meters and died a little over a block from where he was shot. Incident report number 6,662, filed at the 1st Police District of the municipality, states that next to the body, "they seized the weapon wrapped in a blue shirt, loaded with four projectiles, two intact and two damaged".

IT WASN'T VETO

According to real estate agent A.M., 40, a robbery victim, two Black men invaded the establishment around 3:30 PM and announced the robbery. I recognized one of them and he was arrested. The other robber took me to the office and stole checkbooks. He managed to escape and, although he was Black, he was not the young man who died. Their hair was different (Veto wore dreadlocks)" - he said. According to police, other participants in the robbery would have been outside to provide cover, when one fled on a motorcycle and the others on foot.
