See all details of the São Paulo band Mosaico's tour with Rio Grande do Sul's Chimarruts this July 2004!
MOSAICO, a "Love Reggae" band from SP, came down south to play alongside the gauchos from Chimarruts and to promote its recent work with 11 unreleased tracks of the purest Brazilian reggae, featuring special guests from the bands Maskavo and Alma D´Jem. The 1st show was on Friday the 16th in São Miguel do Oeste - SC at the Pharol dance club. The warm reception in the cold city that nearly borders Argentina caught the band's attention, and as soon as they arrived at the hotel they were called for an exclusive interview on Radio TOP FM from the Peperi communication group. The host Flavio played three tracks from the band's CD and interviewed the five MOSAICO members about this experience of playing alongside Chimarruts in São Paulo and in SC. Some MOSAICO CDs were raffled to listeners, the super cold night arrived and soon warmed up with São Paulo reggae. In a show for almost 1,500 people, MOSAICO played the 7 songs from its CD and in the middle of the show paid tribute to the band Maskavo, who encouraged them in this project. The show closed in grand style with a Bob Marley cover - Roots Rock Reggae. Chimarruts' show came right after and energized everyone for 1 hour and 30 minutes, a long show and still not enough for those present, who heard 3 more songs in the band's encore. Back on the road, MOSAICO arrived in Ararangua on Saturday the 17th, in the Santa Catarina coast with a winter climate, though less severe. The show was at Resumo Dance Hall, with capacity for 1,000 people; the house was completely full and the reggae crowd, right from the 1st song, started to dance and sing the chorus of the song Gotas Coloridas. In sequence, the songs Descendo a Serra, Meu Jardim and Olhar Cintilante were the sensation of the show, where the audience interacted fully with the band, singing and dancing a lot. Tributes were paid to the bands Natiruts and Maskavo with well-known covers that literally echoed through the venue in the voices of all present. Chimarruts' show in sequence was a blast and MOSAICO returned to the stage with their road partners to sing "Is this Love" by master Bob Marley. This show, according to MOSAICO members, has so far been "one of the most important in the band's career" due to the high degree of acceptance of the songs by reggae fans from Santa Catarina. In Porto Alegre - the gaucho capital and famous for its strong reggae scene - MOSAICO performed on Monday the 19th on the music video program PAPOCLIP on TV COM, belonging to the RBS TV group, affiliated with Rede Globo de Televisão. There were 4 songs live, featuring the participation of Chimarruts' singer Tati, who sang with MOSAICO on "Gotas Coloridas" and Maskavo's biggest hit, "Um Anjo do Céu". On Tuesday the 20th, MOSAICO negotiated and closed the distribution of its CDs in the region's largest store chain, Multisom. Their CDs can now be found for sale at R$12,00 in all Multisom stores spread across the capital Porto Alegre and the interior of RS. The next day, MOSAICO went to Jornal Diário Gaúcho for an exclusive interview about the recently released CD and the tour with Chimarruts, where the story of the cultural exchange between the two bands from different states continues to stand out and serve as an example to all reggae tribes in the country. Also on the same day, MOSAICO went to Luau Bar for a closed party for more than 800 people from the surf tribe, watched the show of the gaucho band Mercado Publico (ex Arawak), which defines itself as "Reggae Roll" mixing the strong grooves of its reggae with well-played rock guitars. MOSAICO made a special appearance at the end of Mercado Publico's excellent show and had everyone singing well-known songs from gaucho reggae. The biggest day so far for MOSAICO came with interviews given to the famous Porto Alegre radios on Thursday the 22nd, such as Radio Ipanema FM on the Reggae Dub program hosted by Pora, known for launching various reggae bands in the greater Porto Alegre market, where the song Olhar Cintilante was played, and the special participation with Chimarruts on the Pijama Show program by the exotic Mr. Pi from Radio Atlantida, which also belongs to the major communication group of RBS affiliated with Globo. In this last program, with huge audience because it is broadcast to the entire state of RS and SC, MOSAICO played acoustically two of its working songs, did a cover with Chimarruts of Bob Marley and performed the song Descendo a Serra directly from the CD. The Pijama Show program with humorous tones left the MOSAICO and Chimarruts members at ease, who had fun, learned and shared everything about the current reggae scene in their respective states of origin, with much debate about the technological invasion in recording studios and the precariousness of the "Roots" of the past that were recorded live on just two channels and that still influence and gain admiration from the great majority of the reggae crowd. MOSAICO resumed its shows across the south on Friday July 23 with Chimarruts, holding its first Mega Show at the Municipal Gymnasium of the city of São Leopoldo – RS, playing to more than 15,000 people on the city's 180th anniversary. The following Saturday it did a solo performance at the small venue Pedigree Acústico, a bar in the south zone of the capital Porto Alegre frequented by the city's beautiful eclectic youth who wanted to hear a bit of everything and ... so the show was, everything happened and the band showed its vast pop repertoire to a select audience of 600 people and returned to play with Chimarruts on Sunday the 25th in the city of Gravatai-RS, once again holding one of its biggest and best Mega Shows ever, playing to a crowd of more than 35,000 people in the City Square. That show with the taste of tour's end impressed the MOSAICO members and also the spectators who saw MOSAICO play the promises of its great future hits, such as Descendo a Serra, Gotas Coloridas, Meu Jardim and Olhar Cintilante, songs in which it was easy to see the great majority already singing the lyrics along with the band. Tributes were paid to the bands that most inspired MOSAICO in recent years, such as Cidade Negra, Bob Marley and closing with the great Maskavo hit "Um anjo do céu", which formed a chorus of thousands of voices saying farewell to the São Paulo band that was completely moved by the receptiveness of the gaucho people. Who gained the most from this Tour? Certainly Brazilian reggae, which is increasingly showing itself without borders and flying further and further. Another example for the reggae brotherhood of the entire country was left: unity! Congratulations Mosaico, Chimarruts and everyone who builds, a little each day, the strength of the national reggae movement.
