Radiola Bumba Beat invites Edu Sattajah and Yellow P! Learn more!

Radiola Bumba
Day: September 9 Time: 22:00 Venue: Pabotim Bar In September, things heat up with lots of ska (Sapobanjo and Maleducados), dub (Edu Sattajah and Yellow P), and the city's best selection of Jamaican music with Doc Reggae...

LIVE >> Edu Sattajah

The bassist of the São Paulo band Leões de Israel presents Sete, his second solo album, released by the K-Roots label. The repertoire shows an emphasis on the dub of Lee Perry and King Tubby. On stage, Edu is backed by a super band trained in Jamaican riddims. A unique performance, rare to see. Don't miss it!

GUEST DJ >> Yellow P

He leads the traditional reggae and dub party, "!!DuB fuEGO!!", on Friday nights in São Paulo. He was resident at Susi In DuB nights at Susi In Transe, played at Dub Mamute at SESC Pompéia alongside Mad Professor, Robotiks, and the carioca Black Alien. He is a member of Rockers Control and also Mamelo Sound System. He is also part of DuBVersão Sistema de Som, which brings reggae, dub, and ragga sound to the streets. He has already performed at Urbano, Jive, and Mood Club. He has also played at Ecosystem 1.0 (Manaus), Fundição Progresso, and Febre (RJ), among others.

THE RADIOLA BUMBA BEAT PROJECT

It's curious, but although ska and, especially, reggae are so well known in Brazil today, there are many very good bands working hard to get a place to perform. The scene is more or less as follows: on one side, the universe of big names such as Cidade Negra and, to some extent, Skank and O Rappa. Getting into that club is obviously not easy. On the other side, the beanie crowd, usually dressed in green, yellow, and red, reproducing the sound and ideas that Bob Marley established 30 years ago - things that, if he were alive, he certainly would not be doing. Because of all this, the creators of the project decided to take over the spot - which is excellent, at the corner of Fradique and Inácio, in the heart of Vila Madalena. The goal is to open space so that a new generation of Brazilian DJs and bands of ska, rock steady, reggae, and dub can have their chance.

LIVE RADIO SHOW

Radiola Bumba Beat, led by Otávio Rodrigues, Doc Reggae, and Bruno "Kaskata" Lancellotti, works like a live radio show. But without a transmitter: only those who go can listen. It's one track after another, with open microphone, interventions, jingles, the right amount of information, and even audience participation - song requests, for example (at minimum). The idea is to play old and new records and thus provide ammunition so people can understand the importance of certain songs and certain artists. The participation of other DJs and personalities is part of the story.

SEPTEMBER PROGRAM

day 09: "Understanding Dub": A selection with the great masters of the style, who with echoes and special effects influence modern electronic music. day 16: "Who's Who in Ska": Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Roland Alphonso and other old-school names alongside Slackers, Toasters, and Victor Rice, among other younger acts. day 23: "In Jamaica, Even Beethoven Becomes Groove": Doc Reggae presents a fabulous collection of rock, pop, soul, and even Italian song classics... but all Jamaican style. Don't miss it! day 30: "The Best Reggaes in Brazil without iô-iô-iô": Gilberto Gil, Baby Consuelo, Toninho Crespo, Luís Vagner, Cidade Negra, and others who made and still make (well) the history of reggae in Brazil. For the curious, a sequence with the new names of reggae in Maranhão, who are successful on radiolas singing in English - or almost.
