Papas: Our main dream is to continue our career. We still have many things to achieve. In fact, this is actually what moves us; not just artists, but all of us human beings. You have to have dreams, challenges in this life. And we atPapashave a lot to look forward to. Our focus has always been and will be the continuity and growth of the band. Within these challenges is our next step, which is to make a CD/DVD of new songs. It will be our sixth CD and second DVD.
Papas: In part yes, asSão Paulois the major economic center and is also a major Brazilian cultural center. A lot happens atSão Paulo, a lot of ideas circulate, it's an opinion-forming center. Hence its importance - in addition, of course, to being a state that offers a voluminous market - to achieve and increase success. But, on the other hand, we should not disregard all other markets; In another way of seeing this "real success", it is necessary to note that, if you conquer your city, if you build your career there, making several albums and shows, you can already consider this fact as a great achievement. Is this not true success? In any case, it is obvious that success also has different sizes, and an artist always wants to reach as many people as possible. And then, when he achieves this, the feeling of success is greater.
Papas: No. The use of our songs in other areas is a result of their very essence, that is, they are songs with melodies and groove, with a positive attitude towards life. Maybe that explains it.
Papas: It's true, we are not yet known to the large capital public. This shows that some regions are already consolidated as a market, such as the Northeast and the South, which is our region. There, we perform an average of eighty to one hundred shows per year, our CDs have excellent sales (the CD/DVDPapas Ao Vivo Acústicohas already received a gold record in just five months since its release); These are regions outside theRio / SPaxis that offer their own market to their artists. Meanwhile, we work like ants in other regions, increasing our audience and taking our music to these markets as best we can. That is, with or without support from the mainstream media. I don't know if the media manufactures artists. I think that at the end of it all, even if the media thinks about fabricating something, the public will always tell the final truth. If the artist establishes himself as an artist, it is because he has value, it is because he reaches certain people.
Papas: In a huge country like Brazil, the media has an even more fundamental role. But the good news is that we are in a phase of transformation, which involves all media. New ways are being created to promote the work of different artists, who today are outside the media, or "almost outside" it. The internet, as it becomes cheaper, as the majority has access to it - just as they have access to radio and television -, will be the instrument of this transformation. In fact, it already is. Today, several independent artists make their albums available online and create their own websites. In other words, they get a space to promote their music, and many end up reaching and forming a large audience. This is a great hope for those who cannot find space in traditional media. But it is worth highlighting that the internet is also a medium, and it is necessary to preserve its "democratizing" character, before the powerful take over it and independents lose this space any further.
Papas: Papasis a band that also moves through reggae; In all of our CDs there are hints of reggae, although we don't do reggae exclusively. We love a good roots. Old Bob never leaves the scene. And reggae made in Brazil is trying to come of age. It has grown a lot in recent years and the trend is to improve both technical and creative quality. Furthermore, several bands that don't do reggae exclusively are making good contributions, making excellent reggae songs. Finally, there is a loyal audience that consumes reggae, which is essential to boost and consolidate the segment.
