THE HISTORY
In November 1999, to celebrate her birthday, Amanda Japinha decided to throw a party mixing reggae with forró, live bands and many friends... the result: a pioneering night in the style (Surf, Reggae and Forró) emerged, which today dominates the four corners of Brazil, JAMMING. At the second party, which took place in January 2000 to celebrate the birthday of another organizer, Aline, DJ Marcello Tux went as a spectator to watch the performance by the band Vibrações de Jah, which was a regular presence whenever JAMMING happened, and ended up being invited to DJ at the third party, held in April and celebrating the birthday of Carol’s Beer, also from the organization. Result: because of the public success of the first three parties, which until then were temporary, Amanda, Aline, Carol and Tux received a proposal to hold the party every Friday, on Rua Estados Unidos in the Jardins neighborhood, bringing a ghetto party to a privileged region and next to a police station, thus beginning the history of this venue that was the initial stage for many of the bands that are now successful in the current Regueiro scene, and considered by many the best phase of Reggae in SP. Later JAMMING moved to Clube Ipê, a much larger place, since the Jardins space could not hold the great success of the project, but because of the high volume of the sound that disturbed the club's neighbors, JAMMING had to move again, this time to the Pinheiros neighborhood, but it did not remain there for long, because it was a smaller place and different from the previous locations. Almost at the same time (in 2000) in the Av. Dr. Arnaldo region, the court of Escola de Samba TOM MAIOR began another great reggae night on Fridays, a partnership between DJ PINGO and KIKO TUPINAMBÁ, manager of the band PLANTA & RAÍZ, which was fighting hard and very eager to show the band's contagious sound, which got its push toward success in this place, where many people heard about the main band that hosted guest bands and played hits such as "COM CERTEZA", "PLANTA QUE BROTA DA TERRA", "500 ANOS" and "AQUELE LUGAR", the fruit of a still independent CD that won over not only the São Paulo crowd, but little by little was infecting all of Brazil, through the sonority and positivity conveyed in the lyrics of Zeider's songs (vocalist). Many wanted to go there to get to know the band live, buy its single with 4 songs, T-shirts, stickers, and in a short period the whole city was stamped with the PLANTA & RAIZ logo. TOM MAIOR, like JAMMING, had to change its address, becoming still in Pinheiros, but on the same street as Projeto Equilíbrio and without the band PLANTA & RAIZ.THE PRESENT DAY
Now these two traditional reggae projects come together to promote a new night. "SEXTA É DIA DE REGGAE" will be a fortnightly night featuring special guests from the national reggae scene. The chosen location is the new and current TOM MAIOR court, renamed "ARENA TOM MAIOR", now completely renovated, with a beautiful look and a large sound and lighting structure. These characteristics added to the venue's tradition promise to be a sensation for the reggae audience that enjoys good music, beautiful people and fun. The event promises to mark the return of the golden times of São Paulo reggae!EVENT DATA
