Midnite delivers an incredible show at Verão Reggae in Bahia, proving they are stronger than ever!
The band Midnite, from St. Croix - Ilhas Virgens Americanas, was present on January 20th at "Verão Reggae", held at Praia de Arembepe, close to the capital of Bahia. The event featured the participation of several local bands such as Edson Gomes, Roots Nyabinghi, Ka-massa Reggae and Emergentes do Reggae. "Enorme expectativa" can be considered the best phrase to define the desire of the Bahian public to check out the performance of Midnite, which is currently on its second tour in the country, where it has confirmed visits to other cities such as Porto Alegre and São Paulo (check out the full schedule of shows right here on the website). Surforeggae, in partnership with the event organizers, drew three people to participate in the event for free and meet the members of the band Midnite.

NYABINGHI ROOTS

The location chosen for the Verão Reggae Event was the A.U.V.A space, with a huge structure to receive thousands of Jamaican music fans. The natural band of Salvador - Roots Nyabinghi, opened the show for the audience that was already warming up to the sound of Ital Sound System, playing great Reggae classics. Roots Nyabinghi made a repertoire of its own songs, as well as covers from bands like Morgan Heritage.

KA-MASSA REGGAE

At the end of the Roots Nyabinghi show, the audience began to get denser inside the space, being able to witness the band Ka-massa Reggae, from Camaçari-BA playing several new covers such as "My Actions" from Ilhas Virgens - Bambu Station and "Little Green Apples" from the eternal prince of Reggae Dennis Brown.

ITAL SOUND SYSTEM

During breaks, DJ Vicente commanded Ital Sound System, causing euphoria by playing songs by artists accompanied by Midnite such as Ikahba and Dezarie. A delay at the beginning of the night meant that local bands had to shorten their performances a little, as was the case with the band Emergentes do Reggae, from Camaçari, the next to perform.

MIDNITIS

The slightly tired audience stood up when they heard the announcer call for the band Midnite, who were already preparing on stage for their performance. With a slightly different lineup, the group performed an impeccable show lasting almost two and a half hours, to the amazement of everyone present. This time, Ron Benjamin, "maestro" from the band that always played keyboards at shows, took over the bass and had the mission to shake the place (mission accomplished). Also absent were drummer Dion "Bosie" Hopkins and guitarist Abijah, two beasts highly responsible for achieving the band's current status. Due to fights between the members, the group was close to the end, but now they seem to be on good terms again. The group's classics such as "Ras to the bone", "Propaganda" (the most requested by the public), "Banking in the pig" and "Love right, live right" marked the 2 hours and 18 minutes repertoire. The band's first performance in Bahia was incredible and left everyone very satisfied. The Bahian public has the habit of taking paintings, flags and various other artifacts to shows and handing them over to the artists to be shown during the performance. Vaughn Benjamin, the group's lead singer, interpreted all the objects given to him as gifts that were kept for the happiness of some and the despair of others. The day was already dawning when the band ended their performance to the screams of the audience who were still asking for more. In the morning, with the sun showing all its strength, Edson Gomes was called to close Verão Reggae. It is hoped that the Event can have a second edition and bring other great Reggae beasts to the joy of the people of Bahia. Congratulations to everyone involved in the initiative and may the next one be even better.
