Learn more about Ghetto I, the Brazilian who has been showing the strength of reggae's new trends!
Ghetto I is a Rastafarian New Roots, Ragga & Rap singer with a striking and imposing voice, self-taught multi-instrumentalist musician, music producer and owner of an independent black music label (I-VIBEZ RECORDS). He discovered reggae in the northeast, more precisely in Piauí, where he lived for almost three years with his relatives on his mother's side, the son of a woman from Maranhão and a man from Rio Grande do Sul, he discovered his gift for composing at the age of 16, the age when he started writing. Self-taught, he learned to play the guitar on his own, 8 months later he was playing acoustic in bars at night in Porto Alegre-RS and opening shows acoustically for big reggae bands in the region. At the age of 19, he founded the band Rasta Ghetto: A project lasting more than three years, which was carried out by Ghetto I on May 15, 2003, when the band had its first official rehearsal. The band played in many places in Porto Alegre, the interior of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, with the intention of talking about the reality of the most needy people, crying out and thanking the Lord Jah for his blessings. With a heavier musical style and a more rootsy feel, the strong and striking lyrics are always based on life and faith in Jah. Over time, Rasta Ghetto gained space and respect in the reggae scene in Rio Grande do Sul. At the end of 2004, Rasta Ghetto recorded a demo CD with four songs, this single had the collaboration and support of important musicians from the Gaucho reggae scene. At the beginning of 2006, the Rasta Ghetto musicians decided to follow other paths in their lives, but Ghetto I did not give up on his mission and pursued a solo career. Due to their faith in His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, their beautiful work and humility, they have been increasingly gaining space in the national reggae scene and making connections with other countries. His first solo album was a mix of black music bringing many messages of reflection and peace, all based on the Rastafari experience. This year, the second solo album of his career is about to be released, HIPNOSE, also recorded by I-Vibez Records, produced by Ghetto I. For those who don't know the artist, it's worth checking out his work.
