“A collaboration album”. This is how producer Rafael Ramos defines “Novo dia”, Aline Duran’s debut album. The explanation is in the CD's specifications: recorded in studios in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Aline attracted big people, who were enchanted by her work at first glance and insisted on participating in the album. Veteran musicians such as maestro Jota Moraes (Azymuth and Cama de Gato), Bi Ribeiro and João Fera (Paralamas do Sucesso and Reggae B), Black Alien, Marlon Sette and Ronaldo Silva (Reggae B), as well as DJ Marcelinho da Lua, Rafael Ramos, Rodrigo Sha (Bossacucanova) and Júlio Porto (Ultramen) were present.
Aline sings nine tracks on the CD alone, has her partner in Black Alien on “Pra Quem Jah Olha” and is a versionist on “Everything I Own”, a hit by the group Bread in the early 70s. The inspiration for the lyrics comes from what the singer and songwriter lives, thinks, feels and believes: “Basically, my message is about the importance of having faith in yourself and in God, of having a positive attitude towards life, and, above all, of love and respect for others, as these are the only weapons truly capable of establishing peace, justice and equality among people”, he emphasizes.
The work to promote the CD begins with the track “É com Você”, inspired by the passionate phase of a love relationship, when you just want to be with the person you like and don't even see time passing. "I was experiencing exactly that at the time I composed it, returning from a reggae show between six and seven in the morning. The sun was rising majestically – as always – and I had the right person by my side", says Aline, who in "The Day After Tomorrow" sings: "I'm going to leave the door open / love comes in and everything is right / that's what makes life happy".
The CD is not just made of romanticism. Social and political issues are addressed in the first track, “Bem-vindo à Selva”, full of dubs by Marcelinho da Lua. Religiosity is present in “Reggae pra Agradecer”, “Pra Quem Jah Olha”, in which Black Alien completes the vocals, and also in the title track, which mixes faith and hope.
The album “Novo Dia” is not just another title, but rather brings rich and thought-out messages track by track, combined with an original sound, typical “weight x lightness” of roots reggae. Anyway, careful production, well-composed lyrics, great participation and of course, Aline Duran's voice and charisma, will make “Novo Dia” one of the main releases of 2008 in national reggae.
