Bahian reggae quintet performs at Praça da Purificação, starting at 10pm. The party, led by the Veloso family, is one of the most important religious and profane manifestations in Bahia!
The traditional Lavagem de Santo Amaro, 71 km away from Salvador, has already started and the band Diamba is one of the attractions performing tomorrow (27). The venue for the show is Praça da Purificação and the secular festivities always start after the novena, around 10pm. The washing is run by the matriarch of the Veloso family, Dona Canô, who, at the height of her 101 years, sees the small town in the Recôncavo region of Bahia receiving more than 35 thousand people per night.
The opening of the festivities was led by Caetano Velloso, on the 23rd, and Maria Betânia is scheduled to close the event on February 2nd. Diamba will host reggae night tomorrow with other local bands. Names like Preta Gil, Tomate, Alexandre Peixe, Timbalada, Tribahia and Jau have already passed or will liven up the party.
