The lawyers of the Jamaican ragga ícone, Buju Banton, appealed to the American justice system for the sentence accusing him of conspiracy for drug trafficking and weapons possession, but without success.
The artist recently completed, on June 23, his first year in prison out of the 10 to which he was sentenced. Côrte Americana denied the request of the lawyers, who claimed that Buju was induced by a government informant (Alexander Johnson).
According to the court, Mark Myrie (given name Buju Banton) demonstrated familiarity with trafficking at the trial and previously acted as an investor, when he was induced by a previously unknown government informant to traffic cocaine.
Buju Banton won the Grammy for best Reggae album in 2010 with "Before the Dawn", a CD that even features a song in which he declares himself innocent of the conspiracy that accused him of drug trafficking.
