Icon Dominguinhos dies at 72 in a São Paulo hospital.

Musician Dominguinhos died this Tuesday (23), aged 72, at Hospital Sírio-Libanês, at São Paulo. He had been fighting lung cancer for six years. According to the hospital, the musician died at 6pm due to infectious and cardiac complications. During treatment, he developed ventricular failure, cardiac arrhythmia and diabetes. Dominguinhos was transferred to the capital of São Paulo on January 13th. Before that, he was admitted to a hospital at Recife for a month. Considered the most important accordion player in the country and artistic heir of Luiz Gonzaga (1912-1989), José Domingos de Morais was born in Garanhuns, in the countryside of Pernambuco. He met Luiz Gonzaga when he was eight years old. At the age of 13, living in Rio, he received his first Rei do Baião accordion, which three years later established him as an artistic heir.
