Edmilson Tomé da Costa, "Serralheiro", one of the most emblematic figures of reggae in São Luís do Maranhão, passed away on March 29.
Serralheiro had several health issues, involving kidney and circulatory complications and, more recently, suffered a stroke that further worsened his condition until his death.
Check out this and other legends who have already left us, in the special section "In Memoriam".
(DJ Serralheiro in action)
Passionate about reggae, Serralheiro made 28 trips to London and 17 to Jamaica without even speaking the language, solely to search for records to play on his sound system in São Luís. He was one of the pioneers of reggae in Maranhão, introducing Jamaican music amid other rhythms such as merengue and lambada. Rest in peace.
