Jamaican singer Millie Small, of the hit "My Boy Lollipop", died at age 73 after suffering a stroke. The song was one of the great hits of the 1960s. The death was announced by entrepreneur Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records.
She made history and developed the fundamental structures of Jamaican reggae. Sleep with the angels, sister Millie."

He was responsible for taking Millie to the United States and presenting her voice to the world. In 1987, "My Boy Lollipop" was reissued to celebrate Island Records' 25th anniversary. At the time, Millie gave an interview in which she said she had no money and was living in London.
The singer leaves her daughter, Joan, who followed in her mother's footsteps in music. British actor Vas Blackwood mourned Millie's death on his Twitter account. He says "My Boy Lollipop" was the spark for SKA:
