The Congos and the legacy of "Heart of the Congos": Jamaican roots in its purest form

The Congos is a fundamental reference of Jamaican roots reggae, known for their vocal harmonies and strong Rastafarian spiritual message. In the 1970s, the trio helped shape conscious reggae, leaving a deep and timeless legacy.

The album "Heart of the Congos" (1977), produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry at the legendary Black Ark Studio, is considered an absolute classic — practically a landmark of roots and dub. Their harmonies between Cedric Myton, Roydel "Ashanti" Johnson, and Watty Burnett are a unique signature in the history of the genre.
