Dezarie shakes the Expresso! Everything about the show of the biggest reggae diva of today!
For some time now, regueiros in Brazil have been experimenting with the "strong spice" of reggae from Ilhas Virgens through bands like Midnite and, for those who delve a little deeper, Bambu Station, Iba, etc. In this batch was Dezarie, which with its strong footprint, to the less informed even "looking like hip-hop", easily won over the taste of Brazilians. His first album, "Fya" from 2001, was already more than a "business card", because in addition to the world having known his unparalleled vocal power, the instrumental for this album was recorded entirely by the band Midnite. In a short time, the name Dezarie was the most popular and desired for presentations in Brazilian lands, and Snake Produções responded to the calls. "Dezarie Brazil Tour", as it was called, brought joy to Aracaju, Recife, Fortaleza, Brasília, Porto Alegre, São Paulo (which is deals with this matter), and finally, Rio de Janeiro. The excitement began on the 13th, Thursday, when the singer held an autograph afternoon at the Johnny B. Good (SP) store. There we already had the idea that the night of December 14th would be a success.

DAY 14: EXPRESSO BRASIL

The concentration of people around the place was incredible, on par with Groundation. For many there, Dezarie would be the show of the year. The first to take the stage was the band Maskavo. At this point, people still arrived in large groups, until, around 2:00 in the morning, leaving Expresso Brasil completely packed! Expectations were high when one of the radio announcers Transcontinental announced the star. The delirium was general. When the band released its weight in the instrumental, Expresso shook the structures!

DEZARIE: WHAT A SHOW!

You closed your eyes and heard Midnite. With Edmund on guitar and Ron Benjamin on drums (members of Midnite), the "kitchen" was made for Dezarie's voice. While the singer didn't enter, the instrumental blasted the speakers. Ron Benjamin, brother of Vaughn - vocals of Midnite, is a multi-instrumentalist, and each time he came to Brazil, he took on a position. At Maratona Reggae with Midnite (event that occurred exactly 5 years ago - 12/14/2002) he played the keyboard (photo). On Midnite on Itaquera (in January this year) he took over the bass (photo), and now with Dezarie there he was on drums. Of them all, the only thing we can say something about is the battery. The "one-drop" style of Dion Hopkins, original drummer of Midnite, is to make you cry, but Ron handles the role well.
Moments later, Dezarie enters singing "Gone Down", and the Expresso goes down! Rastafarian flags and posters were displayed, people jumping and singing each phrase... it was truly chilling. Dezarie wandered through his two albums, "Fya" and "Gracious Mama Africa", and even gave hints about his next work. "Fya" and "Poverty" followed... can you imagine how the public was? We had several strong points in the show, and certainly one of them was the people's participation in "Slew Dem an Done". With each "break" in the instrumental, a scream from the crowd! Spectacular! Click here and listen to "Gone Down" from the CD "Gracious Mama Africa". With no time to breathe, Dezarie showed what's to come on their 3rd album. The song is called "Set the Flame", another sound with the striking identity of the "reggae diva". Next, "Law Fe De Outlaw" featured one of the best choirs in the group. Even the band "stretched" the song to support the thousands of voices in Expresso, and of course, admire such receptivity. At one point during the show, to make himself more comfortable, Dezarie changed his shoes (photo) for a low sandal. The singer also brought another novelty that, due to its characteristics, will easily fall to the taste of fans. It's "Jah Words is the Truth". This work is truly unmissable. "Gracious Mama Africa", from the 2003 album of the same name, was one of the best performances. An undeniable harmony between audience and band. Dezarie still makes its last performance today, December 15th, at Fundição Progresso (RJ). The band that closed the night was Leões de Israel, who performed their last show of 2007. That's closing the year with a flourish!  Personal Note: The only thing we would like to highlight here, which we even noticed at shows in other states, is that Dezarie does not take photos with fans. Whatever the reason, when becoming a public person, anyone is subject to this type of approach. It's regrettable to censor a request for a simple photo, which for her may be 5 seconds of interruption, but for the fan it means many years of joy. Apart from this episode, an exceptional artist.
