"Reggae 4 Life" festival shows there are still quality events for Jah's rhythm!
Santa Catarina is starting to enter the Brasileiro reggae circuit, proof of this is "Festival Reggae 4 Life", held in the wonderful tourist resort of Camboriú. This festival, which promises to take place every year, aims to mix major national and international attractions. On January 22nd we had the attractions Mad Professor and Macka B, both from Inglaterra, and the band A Tropa, from the interior of São Paulo. We from the Surforeggae team were on the 29th to cover the shows of Ras Bernardo (RJ), QG Imperial (SP), Lei Di Dai (SP) and Damata (SP). As beach and reggae have always combined, a festival of this level in Balneário Camboriú could only be a success for Jamaicana music lovers. The place chosen to hold the event is also a spectacle in itself. It's Espaço Deck Lounge (Barra Sul), which is a wood-fired pizzeria that has its own area for events and another outdoor area for more or less 2000 people.

OS SHOWS

This Thursday's "Reggae 4 Life" started late, as the holiday season is still going on, people tend to leave late at tourist resorts like this. The first attraction to take over the Deck stage was Lei Di Dai, the first Brazilian Dancehall diva. With his striking stage presence, he invited everyone to dance to songs from his repertoire such as "Play On", "Energia Positiva", "Tudo de Bom", "Original do Gueto", among others. Right move! Shortly afterwards, everything was ready for the band Damata, which made the Deck Space, which at that point was full, shake. Songs like "Eternidade", "Vibrações", "Guerra Não", "A Mata", "Em Busca das Raízes", "Jah Reina" and "Resistência" were part of this show that surprised many people due to its quality and feeling. Soon after the end of the show, everything was ready for Ras Bernardo, and the audience was already looking like "satisfeito". Ras Bernardo is one of the precursors of reggae in Brasil, it is impossible to tell the story of national reggae without mentioning this artist many times. Founder of the band Lumiar, more than 20 years ago, was forced to change the group's name because there was already a band of the same name. As fate would have it, the change was for the better... because the name this time represented his ideal, the Cidade Negra. With his unmistakable charisma, he started the night with "Nada Mudou". His stage presence and swing when singing and dancing reggae infected the audience, most of whom are not used to hearing the rhythm. Then he sends the killer sequence of "Jah é Luz", "Tente Você", "Gafanhoto" and "No Morro não Tem Play". If anyone had not yet become familiar with Ras Bernardo, all they had to do was listen to the hit “Só Pra Te Provar”. Another well-known hit was “Transformai”, a song that preceded the success of Cidade Negra. It was already early in the morning, but the crowd had plenty of energy to enjoy the sequence of "Não Pare de Sonhar" and "Conciliação" until the end of the show.
