The year 2021 will not be missed in the hearts of waterfowlers around the world. As if the stigma of the pandemic wasn't enough, many artists lost their lives this year. It's even strange to remember that it was still in 2021 that we lost the legendary Bunny Wailer. Over the months, Siddy Ranks, Georgie, Mikey "Boo" Richards, the legend Robbie Shakespeare and the great Garth Dennis also passed away.
This time the person saying goodbye to this plan is Jamaican singer Leo Graham. Admitted to a hospital in Jamaica, Graham was battling cancer, but unfortunately he passed away last Sunday (19/12) at the age of 80.
The singer was successful with The Bleechers, his first and only group, formed in 1968. In the 70s, already in a solo career, he recorded his first single for his friend and producer Joe Gibbs, called "A Win Them" – which tells the true story of a couple's overcoming to stay together. The song became a hit in the region and was played at least 10 times a day on local radio stations.
With the emergence of dancehall in the 80s and the death of his friend Joe Gibbs, he felt discouraged and moved away from the studios and stages. After years of hiatus, it was rediscovered by businessmen Ronaldo Alperin and George Castro, who committed to promoting a tour of Brazil and subsequently reactivating it in the music market.
He re-recorded the song "My Little Sandra" in the Hot Star studio and recorded a new version of "A Win Them". Llewellyn Graham performed in São Luís in June 2012, at "Novo Forró do Arlindo". Rest in peace!
